PLYMOUTH, Mass. – TandemSeven, a company that specializes in creating usable, intuitive interfaces for complex applications and portals, has published a white paper revealing best practices when developing rich internet application user interfaces. The paper discusses how browser limitations impact development of RIAs, and provides tips and techniques to help developers implement successful rich applications.
The authors are Dean Jennings, a principal user interface architect at TandemSeven, and Steve Wyman, the company's vice president of technology. In the paper, they address two key areas: optimizing performance and achieving maintainability.
The authors warn that without a clear understanding of browser environment limitations as they relate to implementation technologies (i.e., DOM Scripting/AJAX), RIA development can lead to a sluggish UI that is frustrating to use. Regardless of sophisticated functionality, users will not embrace it. The paper offers several techniques and guidelines to help developers avoid creating unwieldy user interfaces.
